With the installation of QMOS in Gerdau Ameristeel’s Manitoba Division complete, the QMOS system is able to coordinate a vast network of production operations from the Scrap Yard through the Melt Shop, Billet Yard and the Rolling Mill to the Bundling and Shipping of finished product, while at the same time imposing all internal and external processing specifications
In October, 2005 the melt shop installation of the [QMOS] Level 2 system from Quad Infotech Inc. at the Gerdau Ameristeel minimill in Selkirk, Manitoba was completed. The rolling mill installation was completed in September, 2005. The [QMOS] system will seamlessly co-ordinate a vast network of production operations from the scrap yard through the melt shop, billet yard and the rolling mill to the bundling and shipping of finished product, while at the same time imposing all internal and external processing specifications. [QMOS] also provides a flexible definition methodology for product quality control and testing specifications (e.g. work centre specific specifications).
- Melt Shop:
- Custom written APIs for Quality departments that require spectrometer and LECO results, DI calculations and projected tensile properties
- Integration of [QMOS] with the existing Danielli work order system
- Full 24/7 on-site training and technical support during installation
- Rolling Mill:
- Concurrent delay tracking for multiple mills in the same shop;
- Integration of existing inventory, production and quality data into [QMOS] to provide historical data continuity from the past to the future
- Incorporation of reversing stands into rolling recipes;
- Product family trees based on stands, rolls and passes;
- Billet or heat specific capability for assignment to work orders
- Hold codes at the heat, billet and bundle levels
Order Entry and Scheduling
[QMOS] program modules also cover order entry and production scheduling for the meltshop, caster and rolling mill. The [QMOS] system tracks billet inventory, manages work orders for hot metal and billets in the meltshop, finished products in the rolling mill and finishing end, and shipping of finished products to customers.
[QMOS] coordinates all aspects of the mill setup shop by providing a comprehensive inventory management system for rolls, guides, bearings, chocks and other important parts and equipment. It also facilitates the setup shop processes by providing customer specific reports and work order management.
On the production side, [QMOS] provides real-time consumable usage, delay recording and other production parameters; billet and bundle tagging, product disposition management, shift reporting, performance analysis and countless other features.
