The QMOS DS Lab Assistant screen made its debut at the Gerdau West Tennessee plant. Designed to assist chem lab technicians with their decision making, the screen utilizes machine learning models for accurate predictions of physical properties for all products each heat is intended for. Users can see the probability of tensile failure and take appropriate action before billets are allocated and rolled. Model predictions are also stored in the QMOS database, with APEX alarms alerting supervisors when a given heat has a high chance of failure. Daily reports show how close actual tensile results correspond to model predictions, helping with faster investigations of problematic material.
