Gerdau Ameristeel, the second largest steel maker in the North America, has extended its cooperation with Quad Infotech by extending its contract to implement QMOS in all its steel making and rolling mills. In addition to the original 16 mills, all new acquisitions will be covered in the new amendment including the assets acquired from Sheffield steel and Chaparral Steel, totaling 25 rolling mills and 19 melt shops. The project is set to be completed in 2010.

Quad Mill Operation System (QMOS) receives sales orders from the Gerdau Ameristeel corporate enterprise system. The process of detailed scheduling of steel making, casting, and rolling as well as material and resource allocation is handled in QMOS. Production monitoring as well as quality control at all stages of production are amongst the many functions and capabilities that QMOS will provide each mill.

QMOS software offers a modular architecture that allows the users to choose from a wide variety of tools and functions such as sales order entry, rolling mill and melt shop scheduling, Finished goods and semi finished inventory management, setup shop management, full process monitoring, quality control, and more. QMOS also provides a wide variety of analytical tools and reports for monitoring various KPIs and production specific information in real time. QMOS is able to interface with any level 3 ERP systems such as SAP as well as any Level 1 control systems.
